Our First Turkey ! (updated)

Complete recipe, inspired by Emeril (see prev post)
and results to be posted later !

^ 1.5 hours cooking ^
^ 3 hours cooking ^
^ sweet potato casserole - hmmm...marshmallows almost disappeared... ^
^ the whole spread ^
11.8lb TURKEY:  The night before dad rubbed it (inside and out) with a mix of dry spices like paprika, salt/pepper, italian mix and also garlic and butter.  The next day we used a wet mix of garlic, white wine, turkey stock, lemon, orange and same dry spices.  Stuffed it with an orange (cut in half) along with carrot and chopped onion mix. We cooked according to Emeril recipe. Added stock to pan each hour to loosen stuff on bottom and basted.   Also added chorice under turkey to cook during the last hour.  The turkey was so flavorful and moist, even the next day!

SWEET POT CASSEROLE: Recipe here, i used double the amount of sweet pots and it came out awesome!
(that ends the homemade items...  maybe next year we will get more creative!)

POTS: Betty Crocker Butter Flakes
STUFFING: Chicken Stovetop and chopped up Chorice.
GRAVY: brown gravy mix with turkey drippings.

We bought a couple pies and rice pudding.  Noone eats the cranberry sauce so we didn't waste it!

Quick & Easy Banana Bread

Need:
One box yellow cake mix/pudding in the mix
5 Mashed Bananas
2 Eggs

I mixed everything up and put into a 8x8 greased glass pan, baked according to cake box directions.

We were using up ripe bananas and expected it to be a banana cake - it was so much more like banana bread. Moist and flavorful !

RIP Tedy the Fish

The other night we found Tedy the Fish stuck to the filter vaccum tube. (note; the day Tedy the Dog was adopted we replaced him with Tedy the Fish)

I did my best to avoid the word "dead". I said things like:
"well i think he is very sick"
"no he's not moving"
"he might have to go to the fish doctor"
"we may have to go pick a new tedy the fish"

This morning as Nik wiped his tired eyes he asked:
"is my Tedy the Fish gonna come back from the fish doctor?"
"no, baby. he is not coming back" says mom

"is the other fish gonna be dead too?"

so much for that idea...

Most Favorite Baby Winter Item

This was my most favorite winter baby item.  I began thinking about it again after talking with a girlfriend about winter jackets and car seats.  This outfit was the best!  It was thin enough to not have to adjust the car seat straps daily.  It was also great before and after walking, with or without shoes and it would also deter kids from removing their shoes & /socks !

Quick Movie Reviews

I rented IRON MAN last week maybe.  I enjoyed it, very entertaining and fun.  we liked it!

Dad has come home with these movies...

BABY MAMA - forgetable, completly predictable - kinda funny

HELL BOY 2 - not that good, nothing like the first (which i liked) - fell asleep

THE HAPPENING - good movie, tried to figure the whole thing out.  had a better appreciation once saw some behind the scenes and comments by m.night.

WALL*E - declared a family movie night last night... it was cute, would watch it again if had to.  Nik was asking questions but has no interest in watching it again.

and That's that !  We are looking forward to Hancock.

Do you have any DVD favs?
