Completed my first run of 2012! It was a 5k at Scarborough Beach in Narragansett RI. First time running on the beach as well. There were 113 total runners, the smallest run of all for sure, no getting lost in the crowd.
I signed up for the one on new years day.
The starting line began on the grass, followed it around and over a couple beach fences on to the beach. Across the beach into the trail, onto road and back on trail, beach terrain trail which I seemed to enjoy the most. We ran around some rough rock, muddy trail through two old structures
Came out on the far end of the beach … Finish line was at the other end, possibly about a mile of Beach. A third of the way down the beach my iPhone rang, or so I thought. I realized at the end it was my 30min timer alarm. I crossed the finish line and the clock said 35:50 – a long 5:50 mins, so probably did a bit better. I finished in the middle, lots of room between me and the really good and really slow/walkers – Yes, I walked some but I was overall happy. My PR for a non-windy, flat road race was 32:34.
There was no official chip time and I forgot to turn off my stop watch so i’ll take that for a day of firsts!
My 6 yr old asked “y I finished last” And “mommy got beat by that little girl”
Happy to report, it may have looked like I finished last but placed 9th in my age group and 92 out of 104 total runners… On the other hand there were numerous runners under 15 that finished before me including a 12 yr old that placed 11th overall!
