I should probably blog about my last run before I complete run #5 tomorrow night ! Well, it was “Hot hot hot. Run. Slowed to a crawl. Did it.” That was all I had to say after completing this run. I can’t wait for the chance to get back to Roger Williams Park, it was a gorgeous park, with tons of room to run and/or play!
I also learned a lot about the Girls on the Run, Rhode Island program. It’s amazing. The signups and registration tables were run very well and they gathered up the runners and did a complete warmup, stretching routine.
These were my afterthoughts I posted on the GOTRRI FB Page:
“What an awe-inspiring day and great 5k today in RI !
I found myself standing next to a woman with two girls at the start line. my first thought, she was ‘the mom’. I listened to the girls 100+ questions about running/walking, 5k’s “do people do this everyday?” “when was your first 5k?” …and so on… I was impressed and also amused by her patient, honest answers to each question. I realized she was not the mom and at the time thinking she must be a family friend or something.
Until educating myself tonight about what Girls on the Run truly does – it hit me, she was a coach! I am blown away. She was not just a coach to those girls, she was a mentor. She was someone they both looked up to and were inspired by, in awe of. As I am now…
She was Pure Awesome.”
The goody bag was also the best I had seen all year ( and I can’t recall a better one 🙂 Some super cool goodies !!
