PellBridgeRun.31By far my most anticipated race of the year, I know there are many but this one ‘has me’ to say the least.  I love it.  You get to run over the Newport Pell Bridge?!  Amazing, Yes.

It was my third year completing this run but my first time doing it NON-STOP.  That’s right, non-stop.  It took a bit to get out of the crowd of runners/walkers from the start line but once we were just about at the base of the bridge it was (somewhat) smooth sailing.  There was that one safety cone….

This year I attacked it differently, I was excited.  The two weekends prior I completed two non-stop 5k’s.  The momentum going into this one was good. Having four (2 first timers!) other great friends doing it too was the icing on the cake.

I didn’t think I would have a running buddy, I usually find a pair of sneakers with a good pace and attempt to stick with it.  With the beginning of the run being so busy me and my girlfriend started off together…. the only difference from previous runs/last year was I didn’t lose her.

She didn’t admit to slowing down for me, so I will never know.  I do know it was perfect, her pace was so great I stared at her sneakers from the base of the bridge until mile 3.5. I did not look up. Newport Bridge view, meh, been there/done that.  Head down and run.  It worked, I didn’t look up and I didn’t stop. She was supportive with her words also, I could not have asked for a better running pace buddy.  It felt amazing, an awesome run, the words ” I could have run more” may have even came out of my mouth.

The overall time was slower than both of the previous years, but I have to say the first mile killed it… made sure to pickup some extra seconds with the sprint finish.
