Here we are, starting another weekend, another impending snow storm…. There is a big difference, I am not heading up to Boston. The Boston Wine Expo is in the past can only look forward to next February.
No amount of snow was going to keep me away. It was an unforgettable day from start to finish… the ride in on the commuter rail, talking shop and brainstorming ( how could i not? i had her trapped, she couldn’t escape the train 😉 with my incredibly talented mentor @AllissaHaines. Once we met up with my sister, brother in law and cousins – we made our way to the BWE entrance – game on !
As a BWE blog ambassador it was exhilarating to rush past the lines – right up to the press booth and into the expo. I could get used to that…
I went into the expo with no real plan of attack, my usual “winging it” …no plan, other than to have fun and taste wines. It was busier than last year (Saturday vs Sunday).
I took a few moments to check in at 90+ Cellars booth. 90+ has a super cool crew pouring some awesome wines – Brett was pleased to report the setup of the 90+ pallet bars was over and filling up with happy tasters.
We sipped all of the 6 Must-Sips according to Zagat, none of which disappointed. I’m still not great at describing the flavors. I do know we sipped a lot of other wines… a few were far too strong, most were just right. We tried the Saki, surprisingly smooth.
I didn’t snap quite as many wine label photos, missed (either not there or didn’t find them) the edible hibiscus plant and the ice wine this year, but did get to taste the top notch food items!
The ones that stood out above the rest, in no particular order:
- Vine and Brown Seacoast Butters and DUKKAS (pronounced DOO-kuhs) – yummy…
- Boston Burger Company – Inferno Salsa …
- Auntie Elsie’s Oatmeal Crisps – delicious…
- Tillen Farms – so fresh and amazingly tasty…
- Chelsea Fire Hot Sauce – umm, hot…
- Dulcey – Blond Chocolate
- Yancey’s Fancy Inc. – Best Buffalo Wing Cheddar Cheese, Champagne Flavored a close second…
…i wish i could recall which vendor that had the best meatballs. With that being said, not to be deleted – there are some not so great photos, mostly near the end…
Finished our night with red sangria and more food at Salvatore’s in the Seaport District. We had lots of fun, made it on and off subways in time, through the snow and home safe.
Big hugs and love to my BWE crew! A huge thank you to Boston Wine Expo and Janet Fouts for giving me this wonderful blogging opportunity.
Cheers!
