Race #6 : 07/03/14 Finish at the 50, Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA – 35:16 / Pace: 11:21
My 3rd Finish at the 50 5k. It was a very hot and humid evening in Foxboro. I was looking forward to run it better than previous years 2013 / 2012. The boys were excited to come along to see mom run ( and that I didn’t sign them up for the kids run – been there; done that says the 5 yr old ).
Always fun seeing acquaintances before the start of any race.
Previous years it took 8+ minutes just to make it over the start line. For this start, I wanted to be up around my run time, if not slightly ahead of it. As I made my way around the construction site and behind the pile of runners. I weaved in and around many to make my way up front, until I was standing mostly alone ? From the 10 mile marker the start line it was like a ghost town. I made my way all the way up to the start line — errr, then backed off a bit.
I had a comfortable start, made my way around the stadium parking lot (not as easy as it sounds) and inside – up to the ramps. Although starting up front many runners passed me, approx 1291 😉 Including a friend, it was cool to see but hard to chat while making my way up the ramps !
I finished strong and 30 something seconds faster than last year – whoo hoo …
It’s one of the harder races to find your favorite spectators at the end but was able to grab my medal, goodie bag and meet them in the stands. The boys were beyond excited — they ‘ran’ through The Hall and had a blast while mom ran.
With the half marathon on the horizon, it was just 9 days away. I was making a valiant effort to be alcohol-free. It was the kickoff to fourth of July weekend and reluctantly declined post race drinks. We did have some great eats at CBS Scene, since there were no post race fireworks we headed home. Love my boys like crazy.
Still a little nostalgic for the sangria toast at Davio’s….
BTW: On 4th of July I broke my alcohol drought but resumed on July 7th.
