NON-STOP PR for this Run !
This was my 4th year running the bridge. This is one of the runs that scared the crap out of me the first time. Early packet pickup, getting everything ready the night before, showing up super early, freezing in the dark, taking a school bus “alone”, still freezing and in the dark. Wondering what the heck was I doing. Waiting at the start line unknown of what I was about to accomplish…. First time jitters.
This year was a bit different. Early packet pickup? Just, not an option. Running Solo, So I left my house later than usual, hey I don’t have to be on the bus until 6:15 am. Traffic is much different at 6am. I was parking my car around 6:08...
Got my number, good to go…. I love when I run non-stop, I love it even more when my run time is better than last year. 46:58 last year vs 41:08.
A big part of this is where I started this year. The new start was a welcome change ( and awesome memory trigger for me…. my Jamestown half marathon finish line location ), at first but then got awkward quick as we lined up to get going — everyone got jammed up in the middle.
Fumbling with and finally realizing my bluetooth Jaybirds were dead. Not cool. I love running with my music. I felt lost. Let’s get this over with. In the silent hysteria I forgot to GPS my run also…
I did my best to push ahead and not get way behind all the runners. The start seemed less crowed. where I felt myself fall behind in the past I kept going smoothly. I kept my head up all the way UP and OVER the bridge. Enjoyed the view and watching everyone stop for #selfies… as I kept running along. The downhill. I enjoyed and pushed myself a bit faster than usual.
Off the exit ramp, down the long straight road, rounding the corner and having the finish line back at the visitors center was awesome. I felt good, sprint finish hoping to get the 40 I could see on the clock. Maybe next year?!
There is always room for improvement.
Huge THANK YOU to Matt at Gray Matter Marketing for always being awesome – and shipping me my race shirt 😉
