I had lots of fun this month making Jello Shots …and eating them too 🙂 ! I usually buy something at the grocery store on the way to a cookout or party. This month I had a chance, not once, but twice to make goodies. About 173 yummy Jello Shots. They were surprisingly “quick” and easy. About 4 hours for the layered ones, and a few minutes for the not layered shots for the kids.
My first batch of red, white and blue jello shots for Fourth of July came out perfect! The right amount of alcohol and the jello texture was suburb. The second attempt was ok but something happened to the middle gelatine layer. The middle layer for some reason hardened up really quick and stayed that way…. It was an odd hard, chewy textured layer but I was the only one that seemed to be disappointed.
For my layers I used Coconut Rum (red), Vanilla Vodka (white) and more Rum (blue). I was mostly excited about how cool they looked in photos! Pinterest worthy, If I don’t say so myself….
For the kids at the first party I made just red and blue alone in order to distinguish between the adult jello shots. I also was sure to label each cover with a sharpie ‘Kids’ and ‘Adults’. The second party I got more ambitious – I let the boys pick the colors for the kids and made Yellow and Green ones. The leftover yellow ones that resembled “pee in a cup” had them laughing, those stayed home. The addition of the whipped cream while visiting my sister for the night was probably the best way to enjoy them !
Here are a few recipes I googled that gave me guidance and inspiration:

Next time I will have to give the jello mold / shots in a ‘fruit skin’ a try!
